Wisdom Teeth Removal - I Survived

So yeah, as the headline explains, I have gone through wisdom teeth removal operation. AND survived from it! haha.

Actually, the story starts in the beginning of the year (2016), when I began to wonder whether or not my wisdom teeth are causing the slight pain in my mouth. Naturally, I called to the local health center, which offers municipal dentist services. I got the check-up time rather quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. Interestingly, there was nothing wrong with my teeth, however, the dentist suggested it would make sense to remove them now as they may cause trouble in the future. Personally, I believe they are easier to be removed when you are young. This information is not necessarily accurate, however, it is what I have heard and experienced.

My right side's wisdom teeth were removed in April and the left side at the beginning of September. I wasn't very nervous when going to see the dental surgeon on the first time because I was unware of what to expect. To my surprise the operation itself went smoothly, but the pain was noticed for putting the local anesthetic. I would say that I can handle relatively high amount of pain, thus I didn't take any painkillers after the operation. The taste of blood was unpleasant on the operation day, though. It was also annoying not to be able to eat any solids or warm dishes, nor drink anything hot. The dentist suggested eating lots of ice cream, so that's what I did. Moreover, I was unallowed to exercise or take a sauna for three days, which was annoying. What made me crazy was the rule of not brushing your teeth for 24 hours after the operation - I'm kinda addicted to brushing my teeth at least twice a day. haha.

The left side's operation was similar to the first one, however, I was a whole lot more nervous. Anyhow, the operation itself was quicker and smoother than the first one. On both of the times, I had to wait about a week after the operation to be able to open my mouth properly. The stitches were also gone within two weeks. Overall, the whole process was more straightforward than what I expected, but still I'm super glad it's over. Now I don't need to think about my wisdom teeth anymore. Wohoo.

What kind of experiences have you had with your wisdom teeth?

Postcrossing - Another Try

On the September 1st, I decided to give Postcrossing another go. I started the process by logging into my account and changing my status to active. I had inactivated my account before I began my Erasmus exchange in Greece. That was two years ago, thus my previous postcard was sent on August 11th, 2014 and received September 12th, 2014. This beautiful day, I made a decision to send out 10 Postcrossing cards, which are currently traveling to the following destinations.

To Russia

To Taiwan

To Belarus

To China

To United Kingdom

To Ukraine

To USA

To Germany

To The Netherlands

- Several AD-cards were also send to a Postcrosser from Czech Republic

Hopefully all of the recipients will be happy with the postcards that I chose for them.
For now I can only wait for the posrcards traveling to my direction. :)

HAPPY POSTCROSSING!

The Summer Has Passed

To the greatest of surprises September has begun! For the past three months I have been working on a grave yard, so that's basically how I have spent this summer. I cannot complain because I was able to enjoy the outdoors on daily basis and even though the job was not something that I enjoy, at least I had a job. Anyhow, I believe this to be a suitable time for checking how I reached the points on my Summer Bucket List 2016.

Let's start with traveling, as was mentioned in an earlier post, I traveled to Vilnius, Lithuania at the change of April and May. My more recent journey was to Pärnu, Estonia from August 6th to 9th. Pärnu is a lovely town situated in the southwestern Estonia and on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The trip provided a nice getaway from the grave yard job and on top of that I got to spend quality time with my mom.

What comes to my dearest hobby - correspondence, I haven't reached the goal of being a better snail mailer this summer. Rather, I feel like I have been necklegting letters a bit because even though I have had the thought of writing letters in the back of my mind, I still haven't managed to actually write anything on papers. Anyway, I am happy to say that I'm back in the business. Here's the current list of letters waiting to be replied:
- Emilia, Finland
- Dora, Hungary
- Ida, Norway
- Silvina, Argentina
- Almante, Lithuania
- Ilona, Latvia
- Sacha, Belgium
- Inga-Siv, Sweden
- Amit, Israel

Neither did my wish of spending more time on our summer cottage come to reality, which saddens me deeply. To me summer cottage is a place, where I can truly relax, be myself and feel happy, hence spending time there is important to me. I'm keeping up the hope of speading autumn days at the cottage instead of summer evenings.

I have been relatively happy with the amount of time and the quality of the time that I have spent together with my family and friends. It is something truly important because it's a way for creating longlasting memories. Spenging time with my boyfriend has also meant the world to me. Through all of my social contacts, I have managed to taste delicious food & drinks, stand in the rain (rather use bicycle, but it's not that precise), pick up mushrooms, swim in a lake & sea, take pictures and relax.

Testing out Flowpark has been on my wish list for a long time, so thank you Matti for going there with me. I enjoyed the experience a lot - the activity is something so suitable for myself. I wish to keep on testing out similar parks in the future, too!

To sum up, my summer has been lovely and memorable. Even though I haven't reached all of the goals I set for myself, I still managed to relax and be happy for most of the summer. Besides, there's absolutely nothing wrong in the autumn. My plan is to look for a job and finish my thesis with results that I can be proud of. Furthermore, autumn is beautiful with all the colourful leaves and it means Christmas is approaching slowly but steadily.

I hope you have all had amazing summer or winter, depending on where you are! :)

Summer Bucket List 2016

Creating a bucket list for the summer is always challenging, because it is even difficult to decide whether or not it would be a good idea to list down the things you would like to do. Somehow a list may limit the things you do or make you stressed out for the things you may not have enough time for. However, I see more positive sides to this kind of a list, because it will guide you throughout the summer and when the fall arrives, it is easier to reflect on the past summer.

I don't want to specify what I mean by summer, so let's jump straight into the summer bucket list of 2016.

1. TRAVELING
- I already traveled to Vilnius, Lithuania from April 28th to May 2nd. My dear pen pal was kind enough to host me and show me around. Pictures from the trip will be shown later on with some travel descriptions.
- It would be interesting to see new places within Finland as well.

2. CORRESPONDENCE
- I have felt like a lazy pen pal this year, thus I want to write quicker responses during the summer. Currently I have the following letters to reply: Amit (Israel), Lütfiye (Turkey), Almante (Lithuania), Nese (Turkey), Ilona (Latvia) and Ayaka (Japan).

3. SUMMER COTTAGE
- As long as I can remember, I have enjoyed spending time at summer cottages, thus I wish to spend more time there this year compared to the previous summer.

4. FRIENDS
- Spending time with friends is precious !!

5. RELATIVES
- Meeting and spending time with relatives is nice and I always have great time with them. Midsummer is a great opportunity for combining summer cottage and relatives.

6. FOOD & DRINKS
- With this I mean that I would like to try out new dishes & drinks, and test out new recipes & visit restaurants.

7. WORK
- I have a summer work, which I wish to be a good experience.

8. LAUGHTER & HAPPINESS
-  These things go hand in hand and I consider them crucial parts of life.

9. BOYFRIEND
- I wish to create our first summer memories together !!

10. FLOWPARK
- This is something rather new to Hämeenlinna, but I have always wanted to test it out, so it shall happen this summer.

11. RANDOM THINGS
- See the sunrise
- Stand in the rain
- Eat lots of ice cream
- Pick up berries & mushrooms
- Swim in a lake & sea
- Take pictures
- Finish my thesis well before the deadline

MOST IMPORTANTLY, ENJOY THE SUMMER WITHOUT STRESS!

What does your summer bucket list 2016 contain?

It Felt Like Summer

On the previous days the weather has been very warm and sunny, truly summer-ish, in Finland. That's why my bf and I headed for a photography walk - the pics are from Valkeakoski and Lempäälä. I had an amazing time and the pics shall tell more than words could!

Hopefully you are enjoying the weather as well!

Easter Wishes

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!

To me Easter ain't anything special because I am not a particularly religious person. People who have been reading my blog for a longer time are aware of me having worked on a grave yard for two summers in a row and going to the church to sing/listen to Christmas carols close to every December. These things do not make me religious, however, I do want to believe in something - I'm just unsure what I actually believe in.

Thus, this blog post is about showing my Easter through pictures.

What's Easter without chocolate?

I cooked Greek lamb stew :)

Dessert was a cloudberry panna cotta :)

ENJOY THE EASTER TIME!!

How To Enjoy The Snow?

The street on a freezing day in Hämeenlinna

Most of you are aware of my excitement towards winter and snow. Can't really blame you as I'm starting to sound like a broken record. haha. Anyway, I have never considered winter as my favourite season because I find something positive in all of the season. However, at the moment I'm trying to enjoy the snowy winter to the fullest, especially because the weather forecast has been promising some rain for this week. If that came to reality, my heart would be saddened. Of course, there needs to be a time for the snow to melt away, but it's not yet. I haven't been able to enjoy the beautiful sparkly snowy days enough yet. So, what have I been doing to enjoy the winter?

1. Photographing

Taking pictures is always great, especially when the weather is nice and the company great. During that specific day it was so cold outside that my fingers froze, but that was only a minor setback which was forgotten easily.

2. Cross-country Skiing

Yay! I've been able to enjoy cross-country skiing a bit, but I wish I could ski much more within this winter. I hope we get more snow soon and perfect temperatures to enjoy this lovely sport.

Ready to go cross-country skiing

3. Walking

I'm normally not a big fan of walking, but when the scenery is nice, then it's totally worth it.

4. Standing in the snowfall

What could be better than to admire the snowfall outside, when it's happening in a shooting way in all its beauty?

5. Ice-skating

I hadn't been ice-skating for approximately 2-3 years, so it was about a time to go again. I've never been such a fan of ice-skating, but it is still something nice to do occasionally.

6. Ice-fishing

This was something totally unexpected - Tiia ice fishing, really?!?!? I'd say it was an experience, more positive than I may have thought. I can understand how some people can do it almost daily, because it may have a calming effect on people. It can create a mental state, where you can think about everything or decide not to think at all. I recommend you to try it out!

7. Looking through the window

Sometimes I find myself looking out from the window for a time period that feels short, but may actually be from the longer end.

How have you been enjoying this season??
